IDAHOT - 17th May 2017

Date added: 16 May 2017

The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is held on 17th May. The day was created in 2004 to draw the attention of policymakers, opinion leaders, social movements, the public and the media to the violence and discrimination experienced by LGBTI people internationally.

In under a decade, May 17 has established itself as an important date for LGBTI communities to mobilise on a worldwide scale.

We continue to be horrified by the atrocities in Chechnya and the lack of action by governments to challenge the horrific and brutal treatment of the LGBT+ communities.

Make your voice heard and sign the peitions below:

We’re delighted to say that our bespoke face to face and online LGBT+ training has just been recognised and validated by The CPD Certification Service. So in future, people who go through our training sessions will receive an accredited Continuing Professional Development certificate and will be able to evidence their learning with the points awarded.

Starting Tuesday 21st March in Exeter

Are you over 18 years old and do you identify as LGBT+?
Do you want to explore new ways of improving your emotional wellbeing?
Are you interested in meeting others in a similar position to you?

If so, Intercom Trust’s new Kind Mind Group may be for you.

What is the Kind Mind Group about?
The Kind Mind Group is a 10 week course for people who identify as LGBT+ who are experiencing difficulties with their emotional wellbeing and/or mental health but not at a point of crisis.

The group is based on the principles of compassion focused therapy, an approach that encourages us to respond to our own distress with understanding and kindness.

The approach is particularly helpful for people who criticise themselves at times of distress, experience low mood, anxiety, shame and other confused feelings about their LGBT+ identity.

The Group
The group will be facilitated by two of Intercom Trust’s Helpline, Support and Advocacy Team- Max Cohen, Helpline Worker and Gemma Budge, Trainee Clinical Psychologist on placement.

There will be a maximum of 8 -10 group members and the course will provide opportunities to learn new skills such as mindfulness and self-compassion practices and to improve emotional wellbeing. You will also be asked to practice some of the exercises between group sessions, to try and work out which strategies work best for you.

If you’re interested in attending please call 0800 612 3010 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or ask your support worker (if you have one) to contact us as soon as possible.

Throughout the course you will be able to contact the Intercom Trust Helpline on 0800 612 3010 should you need to talk to someone, in addition to your usual sources of support.

February - LGBT History Month

Date added: 1 February 2017

February is LGBT History Month - a time when across the country we celebrate and reflect on LGBTQ+ lives throughout history.

LGBT History Month is also an opportunity to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer lives and culture, and to recognise the significant contribution LGBTI+ people have made to our country and the world at large.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a national day of commemoration, dedicated to remembering those who suffered or died as a result of the Holocaust.

Today our thoughts are with those people.

We are running Gender Identity Family Days in Cornwall, Plymouth, Devon and Dorset.

The Gender Identity Family Days are for young trans+ people, those questioning their gender identity or who are gender non-conforming, their families, siblings, parents and carers.

It's an opportunity to meet other families and professionals and for young people to socialise in a safe environment.

To find out more about these events and when they are being held please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 0800 612 3010.
