Mental health: An LGBT+ Perspective

Intercom was funded by Awards for All (our deepest thanks to the Big Lottery Fund for this!) to create a community video about LGBT+ mental health issues and experiences. For a link to the video, and more about how it was made, click on "Full story" below.

To get a completely fresh unbiased look at this question, we commissioned a group of independent LGBT groups in Dorset (SPACE Youth project — the lead agency, MINDout, and Silver Moments — to make the video for us. We left the members of these groups a completely free hand to decide on their approach and content. When they delivered the final video we found it was absolutely first-class, and are very proud to have made it possible for it happen.

The very strong message with which they finished their video was that NHS mental healthcare practitioners and other staff need the training on LGBT+ issues that their role demands, and that they deserve as a matter of professional standards.

You can view this moving and inspiring video, which lasts 18 minutes, on Vimeo at tinyurl.com/mhmatterslgbt.
