Police Liaison Group Terms of Reference
General rules
The LGBT Police Liaison Group will be owned by the community, and will be strategic. It will not provide personal advocacy, nor discuss personal details of any member of the public.
Areas covered
1. Policing issues
Discussing and co-developing police policy and strategy as these relate to issues that particularly affect people who are lesbian gay bisexual or trans, or who have sex with people of their own sex.
Primary topics:
- reducing prejudice within the service
- achieving truly equal policing, appropriate to need, across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
2. Community Safety issues in the broad sense
Primary topics:
- reducing homophobic and transphobic crime and incidents
- reducing the fear of homophobic and transphobic crime and incidents
- identifying gaps in the resources available to LGBT people and the victims of homophobic and transphobic crime.
- advising the police on good practice with regard to LGBT issues in inter-agency partnership working.
3. Police Training and Awareness issues in the broad sense
Primary topics:
- in-service provision of LGBT awareness training appropriate to their responsibilities for all officers, including special constables and support workers
- strategic partnership and consultancy on issues around recruitment, selection, initial training, in-service training and monitoring, retention and promotion.
