The Equality Tick project: Goods & Services

Discrimination is now unlawful...

... but some firms and organisations welcome this more than others!

This site enables those firms and organisations which do positively welcome LGB and Trans service-users and customers on a basis of equality to let us know about themselves.

As you can imagine, the site is still growing! So far we have sent mailshots to

  • all the law firms we could identify in Cornwall and Devon
  • all the GP practices and health centres in Devon
  • and clubs in Cornwall.

Identifying the lawyers and GPs, and sending them our mailshots, has cost us a lot of money and vast amounts of scarce volunteer time and skills. We can't carry on indefinitely, so we are hoping to get the Equality Tick Project funded, so we can employ someone part-time to build up the lists.

 

Response rate!

What's worrying is that so few, relatively speaking, have responded positively.

Of the 200 GPs practices we wrote to, only 3 have responded, and one of these said "no". (The GPs aren't up yet: we're still hoping for some more to sign up!)

And as for the lawyers, well, it's much better than the GPs, but you can see here how many of the lawyers' firms have responded positively. How many hundreds of letters did we send out? It must be in our postage records somewhere!

 

We have made separate pages for each of these groups, so that you can see the little declaration that each profession or supplier has signed up to. Within each group, the pages are sorted roughly by geography, to make them easier to consult.

For the moment we have only put the lawyers up on the website. The others will follow when we have time to wrestle with our Access databases! And yes, we want to make this an interactive site, so that you can ask it (e.g.) for lawyers in Torbay who specialise in family law, etc. -- -the time will come! For the time being they're just plain lists.
