The Prime Minister's reception, Thursday 5 March
The Prime Minister held a reception for LGBT campaigners, community workers and celebrities at No 10 Downing Street on 5 March. It was the first ever LGBT event in Downing Street, and even before the Prime Minister made his speech the atmosphere was electric with a sense of history in the making. Michael came back almost. but not quite, speechless ("Er, well, it was awesome"---for Michael, that's speechless).
This morning Michael has got his breath back --- read all about it! click here.
Peter Tatchell launched Intercom's Media Guidance
Peter Tatchell, the international LGBT and Human Rights campaigner, launched our exciting new project funded by the Equality and Human Rights Commission on 26 February (www.intercomtrust.org.uk/projects/beingoutthere.html), in the Exeter Guildhall on Thursday 26 February. It was an event to remember, with a large and strongly engaged audience who received copies of the Media Booklet with keen enthusiasm. For more about this, see our History Month page.
Public and stakeholder response to Peter's speech, and the booklet, was massively and invigoratingly positive. Best thanks and good wishes to Peter, to the Intercom team who made the Booklet happen, and to the Equality and Human Rights Commission who funded the work!
We will make Peter's electrifying speech available on Intercom's website when it has been transcribed.

Legal Services Commission Quality Mark
We are proud to annunce that after a lot of hard work on all sides, Intercom has just been accreditated with the Quality Mark (General) of the Legal Services Commission.

This Quality Mark is one that the Equality and Human Rights Commission has recommended to all voluntary and community agencies to whom it is rlevant.
Interestingly, it now looks as though Intercom is the first LGBT community-led agency in the country to have achieved this accreditation.

Hostile media campaign by a registered sex-offender and others, January 2009
Some people may have seen e-mails circulated during January which are very hostile to Intercom.
We don’t want to leave them unanswered, though we don’t want to give them more importance than they deserve; so we have written this brief statement for any supporters or other members of the public who are interested. Please click here to read the statement. To read the statement in PDF format please click here. (To download it, right-click on the PDF link and choose "Save" or whatever other option your browser provides.)
The intercom Trust is a magnificently successful community project, working hard and effectively over the last twelve years to reduce prejudice, support and develop community initiatives, get professional help to individuals in need, and to enable our community and public-sector partners to reduce prejudice and achieve equal access to services and help against phobic discrimination crime, and much more.
We will continue to prioritise the protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults, as we always have done. We will not compromise over this. Still less will we be swayed by the lobbying of this particular group of people.
