The LGBT Collective
This idea came out of the big conference of LGBT community groups that was held in Exeter in September 2005, the "Right Royal Get Together".
Intercom was asked to facilitate a Standing Council with representation chosen by all the 90 or so independent community groups in the peninsula. The idea is that this Council will make it easier for the groups and their supporters to work together, network, plan for the future, and think about our shared priorities. It will not diminish the independence of the groups in any way.
This is a large challenge, and Intercom welcomed it. We think it's very worthwhile, but it hasn't been easy to find the funding that it will need if it is to operate effectively. Thanks to the Big Lottery Fund though we now have a working model and have just launched a brand new site featuring LGBT groups and projects from across the Peninsula.
