Help against phobic bullying

What do you mean by "phobic" bullying?

When we say "phobic bullying" we mean, generally, when other people pick on a young person, or verbally abuse or tease them or make jokes about them, or exclude them from joining in doing things, either because:

  • they think the young person is gay or lesbian or transsexual, or
  • they think one of their parents or family members is lesbian or gay or transsexual, or
  • they just call them "gay" or "lesbian" or whatever because they want to hurt them.

If this is happening to you, call our confidential helpline on 0845 6020 818. We will listen positively and sympathetically, and we will do our best to help.
